Indulge yourself through an awakening of taste in the Hotel Monaco-Chicago. This elegant hotel was completely renovated in 1998 with a grand "Living Room" lobby entrance that features painted woodwork in "string of pearl" detail, a cast limestone fireplace, plush furnishings of damask and velvet in the large sitting area, and a jeweled-tone color palate of light gold, cream, coral red, copper and rich chocolate brown. The Living Room helps guests celebrate taste through a hosted evening wine hour that occasionally features soothing chair massages and sumptuous hors d'oeuvres from the celebrated Southwater Kitchen that is adjacent to the hotel. Throughout the rest of the hotel Award-winning designer Cheryl Rowley turns to early Deco and the works of Emil Jacques Ruhlmann, a French furniture and theatrical designer, for her inspiration., Hotel Monaco is Green Seal? "In the heart of the Loop", this "offbeat", "worn-around-the-edges" member of the Kimpton Group (set in a 1912 former hat factory building) has that "funky in a nice way" vibe, with "small", "cute" rooms in vivid colors and wacky patterns (some have "great river views" through "big picture windows"); schmoozers smile at the complimentary wine and appetizers in the evening, but say the rest of the "food leaves a little to be desired."

Location and size - boutique.
Restaurant was disappointing and no in-room coffee maker.

Friendly, attentive staff, the wine hour on the house.
Nothing to really complain about. I wish they had a microwave.

The rooms are spacious. After a day of sight seeing (walking), I looked forward for the wine hour and relax in the lobby sipping wine on the house. The WIFI connection was free and excellent.

Great staff, nice amenities.
Nothing.

This is a fun, playful, warm, inviting place to stay. It was a Cory respite in the city. Staff was friendly, personal, and super helpful in providing directions as well as booking tickets. Just a great place to stay in every way. ...read more

Great amenities.

Besides looking at a brick wall out of
our room window this hotel was super comfortable and friendly.

Convenient location to Downtown, wine reception in the afternoon.
Staff not very friendly, small room, and room looks dated.

The rooms are quite small and the bathroom looks like anything you could find in a best western. Gym is a joke, looks more like a closet than a real gym. Staff didn't seem to bother much to satisfy me as I guess I don't look like the usual 4-star clientele. Overall, I was disappointed in my experience. ...read more

Location.
Valet parking fees were high, no free internet we had no computer with us.

We enjoyed our stay here. The location is spectacular, the staff courteous, and the rooms very nice. Loved the robes that were available to use in rooms. Bed was very comfortable. Disappointed that there was no free internet for those without computers, but this was forgotten when we found out we had a free wine hour from 5-6 pm! Valet parking was pricey $40 per night but it is downtown Chicago. Overall - great place to stay! ...read more

I despise low flow toilets because the bathroom is constantly dirty.
